“TO SEE A WORLD IN A GRAIN OF SAND.”

— WILLIAM BLAKE

CONCEPT / PHOTOGRAPHY:
Jelena Pavlović

I am seated at the edge of land in Lagos, Portugal, facing the sea with my back.

No cues. No gesture.

For thirty minutes, action is reduced to its minimal condition: breath. Inhalation and release unfold within the slow rhythm of the sea - its vast, indifferent movement continuing beyond the body.

Documenting the performance, I treat breath as bound to a singular moment. The work does not attempt to preserve it - it allows the moment to disappear, leaving only a brief unfolding in time. Echoing Eivind Røssak, the image emerges as a suspended fragment within a larger temporal flow.

Nothing unfolds as an event.

The image remains mute — it simply holds time.
